Bath officials say a 13-year-old student riding an electric scooter struck a pickup truck during the morning school commute, prompting a precautionary hospital transport.
According to the release, at about 7:25 a.m. Bath Fire/EMS and Bath Police responded to Congress Ave. and Lincoln St. Witnesses and officers learned the student was crossing Congress Ave. from Lincoln St. when he struck the left side of a pickup that was already in the intersection, traveling from North St. onto Congress Ave.
Eyewitnesses reported the student did not stop before entering the intersection. He was not wearing a helmet and did not appear significantly injured, but was transported by Bath Rescue as a precaution.
The department emphasized that riders of motorized or electric scooters and bicycles must obey traffic control devices, and that children under 16 are required to wear a helmet.
