U.S. Marshals in Maine arrested a man wanted on multiple warrants after investigators tracked him to a residence in Lewiston, bringing an interstate fugitive case to a close without further incident.

The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Maine Violent Offender Task Force (MVOTF) took Dominque Bailey into custody on a Fugitive from Justice charge following a forced entry at a Lewiston address. Bailey was wanted out of Massachusetts on three counts of Assault and Battery on a Family or Household Member and Strangulation or Suffocation. He is also facing a probation violation in Maine, where he was on state probation for robbery.

According to the Marshals, Bailey is alleged to have strangled a 5-year-old child in Peabody, Massachusetts, and fled the scene in the victim’s mother’s vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered in Maine by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, prompting a collateral lead from the USMS District of Massachusetts to the MVOTF. Task force members developed information suggesting Bailey was staying with associates in Maine, leading to the arrest in Lewiston.

Bailey is pending extradition to Massachusetts and will be arraigned on the State of Maine charges in the coming days.

Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Josh Taylor credited interagency coordination for the outcome, saying the arrest “highlights the strength of coordinated law enforcement,” and sends a message that “there is no safe haven for violent fugitives.”

The MVOTF includes personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, Maine Department of Corrections, Biddeford Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Maine National Guard Counterdrug Task Force, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service. Agencies assisting in this investigation and arrest included the USMS District of Massachusetts, Peabody (MA) Police Department, Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lewiston Police Department.
