FMO Investigating Pittsfield House Fire on Canaan Road; Two Dogs Found Deceased

PITTSFIELD, Maine — The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO) is investigating an early-morning residential fire in Pittsfield that heavily damaged a home and resulted in the deaths of two dogs, according to officials.
The Pittsfield Fire Department responded early in the morning on December 26, 2025, to a reported residential fire at 693 Canaan Road in the Town of Pittsfield. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home heavily involved in fire.
The Pittsfield Fire Department requested assistance from the Office of the State Fire Marshal to determine the origin and cause of the fire. State fire investigators determined the fire originated in the ceiling area of the kitchen. Based on the information currently available, officials said the fire is not considered suspicious.
Investigators said additional interviews are needed before a final determination regarding the cause can be made.
During the investigation, fire investigators located two deceased dogs in the fire debris. Officials said the home was unoccupied at the time of the fire and that a neighbor had been attending to the dogs on a daily basis.
The investigation remains ongoing. Additional information is expected to be released as it becomes available.
