One person was injured in a basement fire at a home on Riverside Drive in Augusta Thursday afternoon and was later transported out of the area by LifeFlight of Maine, according to the Augusta Fire Department.

Incident Overview



At approximately 14:15 hours, Augusta Dispatch received a call reporting a fire in the basement of a home at 347 Riverside Drive. The caller indicated the fire was believed to be extinguished prior to responders’ arrival.


Upon arrival, first units reported smoke showing and confirmed one person was present with burns, according to the department.



Fire Suppression and Medical Response



The Augusta Fire Department struck an all-hands response, calling back off-duty personnel. Officials said the fire was quickly extinguished.


The injured individual was treated at the scene and transported to MGMC-ACH. The patient was later transferred by LifeFlight of Maine to a higher-level care facility.



Investigation



The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office. Due to the reported injuries, the Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in the investigation along with the Augusta Police Department and Augusta Fire Department.


Units cleared the scene at approximately 16:30 hours, with the Fire Marshal’s Office continuing its investigation.
