Significant Damage to Home

The Westbrook Fire Department responded to the structure fire at approximately 11:30 p.m.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, the department requested assistance from the Office of State Fire Marshal to investigate the origin and cause.

The home sustained extensive structural damage, including an interior collapse, bowed walls and a damaged, partially collapsed foundation.

Due to the extent of the damage and condition of the structure, investigators were unable to safely conduct a detailed examination of the interior.

Cause Remains Undetermined

Investigators determined that the fire appears to have originated in a rear, basement-level addition primarily used for storage.

Several electrical issues were observed in the area of origin. However, investigators were unable to determine whether those issues contributed to the fire.

Electrical involvement cannot be ruled out, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
